Equipping Educators and Students for the Twin Transition
摘要
In order to prepare educators and students for the future, education systems must integrate digital and green skills comprehensively. The demand for these skills is driven by a rapidly changing labour market where digital literacy (e.g. data handling, cybersecurity, problem-solving) and green competencies (e.g. sustainability, circular economy, renewable energy) are increasingly essential. The EU’s DigComp and GreenComp frameworks set out key digital and sustainability skills, but their implementation varies across countries. Some nations, such as Austria, Denmark and Finland, have made significant progress in integrating advanced digital literacy skills into their curricula, while others, including Belgium and Bulgaria, have prioritised sustainability in their educational programmes. However, there is currently a lack of consensus on how to develop these skills effectively, and teacher training is inconsistent. A holistic approach is required, integrating digital and green literacies, as digital tools have the capacity to enhance sustainability education. In addition, school leaders must optimise time management through strategic planning, digital proficiency, and data-driven decision-making. Instead of focusing solely on measurable outcomes, institutions should prioritise core competencies and specialised expertise to navigate the complexities of the twin transition (digital and green) effectively.
