Ukrainian Society Before and After the Russian Invasion of February 2022
摘要
The chapter presents data from the Ukrainian Society survey, implemented by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, to contribute to the better understanding of the astonishing reaction of the Ukrainian people to the Russian army full-scale invasion of February 2022. Results challenge several misperceptions over Ukrainian society, particularly the notion that it is an ethnically divided society. Data also provides evidence of how united Ukrainians are with respect to key aspects of civil life like freedom of speech, the wish for further development of democratic rule in the country, and the idea that Ukraine should remain united despite regional differences. Finally, data highlights the signs of fatigue after three years of war but also the signs of strength and resilience of Ukrainian people. The chapter serves as a foundation for understanding the following chapters of this volume that focus on grassroot resilience during wartime.
