This chapter begins with brief commentary on the transition of the understanding of nature in the Islamic and European worlds during the Middle Ages transitioning to the European scientific revolution in astronomy during the seventeenth century and links this to mathematical advances. Descartes is an innovator in both mathematics and in critical theory while Newton concentrated more on creating a mathematical expression of motion with several unexamined premises that Kant defended afterwards. In biology/medicine the premier advancement was the circulation of blood model put forth by Harvey.
