Silent No More: Harnessing the Metaverse to Support Students with Selective Mutism
摘要
This study explores the potential of metaverse technology in addressing barriers to participation faced by students with selective mutism. Seventeen semi-direct interviews were conducted. The qualitative analysis suggests that the metaverse can overcome participation barriers for students with selective mutism, facilitating self-expression, and alleviating reluctance. Avatars, in particular, were found to play a crucial role in reducing social anxiety and promoting interaction. The findings offer valuable insights for educators and policymakers aiming to integrate metaverse technology into academic frameworks.
