According to the World Health Organization, Institutional and other forms of Elder Abuse constitute a “violation of human rights” and often result in the loss of one’s dignity and instill fear in older adults (WHO, Abuse of older adults. https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/abuse-of-older-people#:~:text=Key%20facts,are%20experiencing%20rapidly%20ageing%20populations , 2024). Institutional Abuse is often devastating because older adults may rely on these types of settings for emergency, short-term, and long-term care. Many, if not all, older adults will engage in institutional settings, as in-home medical, therapeutic, and daily care is limited and may be out of the financial reach for most.
