This paper explores the emerging field of new media art in general and in particular in combination with extended reality (XR) technologies. It seeks to extend classical reality-virtuality continuum approaches such as those of Milgram, Kishino and others by proposing a multidimensional taxonomy for new media art that incorporates XR technologies. While previous categorizations have been primarily technology-oriented, our taxonomy suggests a more nuanced understanding that considers audience participation, agency, mediality, spatiality, corporeality and other dimensions. Using selected examples from recent projects, we demonstrate how this taxonomy can contribute to the analysis of digital artworks and expand the discursive framework beyond techno-logical characteristics. The proposed set of classifiers allows for a more precise definition of digitally enhanced artworks at the intersection of technological tools and artistic-philosophical concepts.

摘要
