Extended Reality (XR) technology has been rapidly developed and used for educational purposes. In recent years, efforts have been made to integrate XR and generative artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance user’s immersive experience. Language learning is one area that can benefit from these technologies allowing for a new kind of immersive education. In this paper, we explore how language learning would evolve in the face of new technologies and what potential challenges would arise, including those of technical, ethical, and social nature.
