Rheumatologic disorders are common in Fibromyalgia (FM). Affected patients may present with overlapping symptoms that potentially delay the diagnosis of these disorders. Patients with FM and rheumatologic conditions are at higher risk of having voice disorders. The most common presenting symptoms are hoarseness or dysphonia, dysphagia, odynophagia, and aspiration. Laryngeal findings include submucosal lesions of the vocal folds, posterior laryngitis, and vocal fold immobility. Treating the underlying rheumatologic condition may improve the voice symptoms of FM patients. Intralesional steroid injections are advocated in selected cases.
