Gastro-Intestinal Disorders in Fibromyalgia and Their Impact on Voice
摘要
Fibromyalgia (FM) frequently is associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The high prevalence of psychological disturbances in FM patients with IBS increases the risk for voice disorders. Other precipitating factors include immune and inflammatory disorders. Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is also a common comorbidity in FM that may exacerbate pain sensitivity. GERD and laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD are known to exacerbate laryngeal diseases leading to hoarseness. Physicians should be aware of the heightened risk of voice disorders in FM patients with these gastrointestinal conditions.
