Fibromyalgia (FM) patients present with various respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea and chest pain, which can mimic diseases of the lower airway. Decreased respiratory muscle function and chest wall compliance in FM can impair phonation by affecting the power source and laryngeal position. FM should be considered in the workup of patients with respiratory symptoms and voice complaints. Future research is needed to elucidate the interplay between FM, breathing, and voice disorders.
