Fibromyalgia (FM) might increase the risk of voice disorders. Patients may present with voice symptoms that are masked by other comorbidities. The pathophysiology of dysphonia in FM patients is not fully elucidated. Both central and peripheral etiologies have been implicated. Suggested mechanisms, include laryngeal myopathy, neuromuscular and other dysfunction. The systemic manifestations of FM may also play a crucial role. Studies using inflammatory biomarkers, laryngeal electromyography, and other investigative tools are needed to deepen our understanding of phonatory disorders in FM.
