Conclusion
摘要
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a systemic disorder that does not spare the phonatory apparatus. Affected patients may have voice complaints in addition to other symptoms. Dysphonia can result from laryngeal and/or respiratory muscle dysfunction. In professional voice users, both breath support and control could be affected. Singers may have trouble sustaining and modulating subglottic pressure during voice performance. More investigations are needed to elucidate the pathophysiology of dysphonia in FM patients. Several mechanisms have been suggested such as decreased oxygenation of the muscles, inflammation, and degenerative changes. Caring physicians and other voice care providers should be aware that the impact of FM on the phonatory system is compounded by the various comorbidities of this syndrome including gastrointestinal disorders, rheumatologic disorders, sleep disorders, and generalized fatigue.
