Introduction
摘要
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic disorder that affects millions of people yearly. It is characterized by persistent diffuse pain and tenderness at multiple sites of the musculoskeletal system, often associated with chronic fatigue, sleep disturbance, insomnia, mood alteration, depression, dyspnea, and many other symptoms. The pathophysiology of FM is complex. Central sensitization, impairment in the descending inhibitory pathways, abnormalities in muscle tissue metabolism, and dysfunction in the autoimmune system are the most commonly suggested mechanisms. This book presents a review of the literature on the prevalence of voice disorders in FM with a thorough discussion of the pathophysiology of dysphonia in affected patients. The authors also discuss the laryngeal manifestation of the numerous comorbidities associated with FM, as well as treatment-induced changes in voice quality. Future research projects on the link between FM and phonation are highlighted.
