This study explores the conservation process of the Si Zikaui House portion of the Si el Haoues House, a significant example of vernacular architecture in M’Chouneche, Algeria. The research highlights traditional construction techniques, emphasising local materials such as earth (toub), palm wood, and stone. Through an analysis of the historical evolution of the building, this paper documents the various transformation phases that have taken place since the pre-1800s, ensuring the house’s continuity while maintaining its architectural integrity. The study also addresses the degradation cycle of vernacular buildings, illustrating the impact of weather exposure and material quality on structural deterioration. The research presents a methodical approach to conservation, beginning with roof and flooring conservation, then reconstruction of damaged sections, and concluding with stabilisation and seismic reinforcement. Specific techniques such as perimeter tie beams, traditional drainage and waterproofing, and wooden framework reinforcement are analysed in detail. By integrating sustainable and reversible conservation methods, this paper aims to preserve and revitalise vernacular heritage while adapting it to contemporary use. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on architectural conservation by offering practical, environmentally friendly conservation strategies that respect traditional building practices.
