Characterisation and Numerical Simulation of the Traditional Architecture of the M’Chouneche to Analyse the Flow and Thermal Phenomena Used by the Region’s Ancient Inhabitants
摘要
Courtyard houses represent an architectural solution well adapted to the climatic constraints of arid regions. This study analyses the traditional Si Zikaui House, a courtyard house in an arid climate in M’Chouneche (Biskra, Algeria). The objective is to evaluate the influence of the courtyard, its orientation, natural ventilation, and construction materials on thermal regulation and indoor air quality. The study is based on two complementary approaches: the analysis of thermal and airflow comfort indices; the experimental characterisation of the thermophysical properties of local materials and their integration into a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation using ANSYS Fluent, allowing the identification of optimal comfort zones and airflow patterns. The analysis highlights the central role of the courtyard in temperature regulation and the improvement of indoor comfort. The CFD simulation provides a detailed visualisation of spatial variations in thermal and airflow comfort, enabling precise identification of the most favourable areas for occupant well-being. Comparison with validated references confirms this architectural typology’s durability and bioclimatic efficiency, emphasising its potential for contemporary sustainable construction approaches suited to arid climates.
