In the Aurès region of Algeria, the guelaas primarily serve to store local agricultural products. This storing occurs before the tribe moves to the north area of the valley during the hot summer season. The preserved stocked agrarian products will be consumable when the tribe returns to the southern hillside of the valley where these collective granaries are located. Such location and function require an appropriate architectural design that the context factors should necessarily impact. This research attempts to identify how architecturally expressed the dependence between these guelaas and their contexts. As a first step, the related literature has been intensely reviewed due to the present deserted state of these guelaas. In the French colonisation era, researchers effectively extracted primary data from textual and iconographic sources. In addition, in situ investigations have been undertaken in a southern region of the Abiod Valley, M’Chouneche (Wilaya of Biskra). A cross-analysis of these data was used to confirm the impact of the context parameters on the guelaas architectural characteristics. The preliminary outcomes reveal that natural and social contexts are related to the guelaas location site and architectural shape characteristics.

摘要
