The Current State of Construction Engineering Research in Canada
摘要
An environmental scan was completed to identify the research activities within the Canadian construction industry under the theme of “construction digitization and productivity”. The scan was completed through a series of workshops held across the country and the collection of data in the form of surveys during the workshops, and subsequently with academic researchers and industry practitioners. Data was received from 38 principal investigators in the field of construction engineering and management (representing 17 academic institutes and 203 active research projects). The analysis of the data uses previous frameworks for summarizing research activity in the construction industry, and the insights collected on methods of making broader scale impacts on innovation. The research activity is examined from multiple dimensions of a given research project, including the objectives of the research, the methodologies employed, and the technologies developed or implemented, as well as the nature of the research on an innovation life cycle scale. The analysis of the data collected resulted in observations surrounding the potential to: (1) strengthen national research clusters in various areas of expertise and phases of innovation, (2) address gaps in research areas, and (3) enhance the support for knowledge mobilization.
