This chapter examines the magical and occult poetics of CAConrad. Conrad constructs their poems through what they call ‘(soma)tic rituals’. These rituals compel the poet to enter an ‘extreme present’, a heightened state of imaginative engagement in which the world itself participates in the creative process. Embracing chance and ephemera as integral to ritual, Conrad’s work stages a simultaneity between imagination and environment. Their poems aim at healing social ills while synthesising experimental poetics with ritual practice, articulating a participatory consciousness that also develops into a form of magical ecopoetics.
