This chapter explores the foundations and consequences of a magical and occult poetics. It argues that such a poetics is defined by a willingness to entertain a magical or occult worldview—one that regards language as inherently magical, positions the poet as analogous to a magician, and views poetic inspiration as deriving from an occult source. It also examines magical poetics through the techniques of spellcraft, trance, divination, and ritual. Furthermore, the chapter addresses the problem of belief, the politics of magical thinking, and the defining features of twenty-first-century magical and occult poetries.
