Engineering Innovations in Aluminum Dross Recovery: Transforming Waste to Resources
摘要
Aluminum dross, a byproduct of aluminum production, poses both a significant environmental challenge and an untapped economic opportunity. If not managed properly, it can lead to toxic gas emissions, resource loss, and environmental degradation. As such, despite large literature gaps, advanced engineering solutions offer an opportunity for further aluminum recovery and a pathway to turning this seemingly ordinary waste into a valuable resource, aligning with global sustainability goals. This paper also explores current and future technologies for aluminium dross recovery, including mechanical separation techniques and several chemical treatment methods. Additionally, this paper will highlight the technical and economic benefits of sustainable dross recovery on a global scale. The role of partnerships (SDG17) and innovative technologies in achieving a circular economy will also be discussed. In addition to society 5.0 principles, this paper demonstrates how engineering innovations can drive sustainable change, reduce environmental impact and create economic value. All of these topics culminate in a case study on TAHA international, a dross processing company in Bahrain.
