New Theoretical Framework for Urban Poverty Reporting in Nigeria
摘要
The need to domesticate African communication and media theories has become urgent. The communication and media landscape is changing fast, with their impacts expanding and becoming more influential. Communication and media have become central to human existence, influencing and directing the course of man’s day-to-day experiences. Communication and media now control not just individuals but the institutions, from politics to culture, from family to religion, and all forms of socialization. To this extent, therefore, African communication and media scholars have a duty to create theories relevant to the continent’s unique experiences, to make the analysis of the trends going on in Africa meaningful. Communication is contextual; it shapes and is in turn shaped by our environment; it tells us who we are and connects us more intricately to our environment, even the future one. Thus, as new global phenomena emerge and regional differences arise, they demand that African researchers take into consideration our need for theories that explain the changes being experienced in our economic, political, cultural, and social milieu.
