The last three chapters of the book follows a constructive line of enquiry. They attempt to propose ways in which the psycho-social dynamics behind South-Africa’s moral crisis could be addressed. Chapter 7 stresses the importance of cultivating moral personal identities that guide peoples’ self-definitions, motivational dispositions, and behavioural responses. After providing a short analysis of the multiple layers of identity, and the dynamics of identity formation, the chapter proceeds to tie moral identity theory to virtue ethics. It then presents the notion of virtue-centred moral identity as a promising conceptual tool to address South-Africa’s moral woes. Mental conditioning and role modelling are identified as two important instruments of creating virtue-centred moral identities.

摘要
