What is integration testing? There are multiple definitions in the literature and relevant standards. The notion of integration testing also is understood and implemented differently across and even within organizations. We define integration testing intensionally, delineate it from unit, subsystem and system testing, and summarize analytical and constructive approaches at integration testing. We argue that partial negative specifications which reflect recurring integration faults can help detect and even avoid integration problems.
