Emotional Intelligence Research as a Tool for the Clemente Australia Program
摘要
This chapter is concerned with recurring themes in the field of research relating to what is commonly known as emotional intelligence, which is characterized by features such as awareness and abilities including management of the emotional states of self and others. A gap in existing literature is highlighted relating to its possible application to the Clemente Australia program, a Tertiary-level Humanities course for adults facing lifelong disadvantage. Ways in which emotional intelligence research may better inform those involved in the program are discussed, as are suggestions about the value of increased emotional intelligence for their students. Possible new avenues of research are outlined, including adapting the program to improve benefits it brings in this area. Concluding reflections are concerned with the possible lack of emotional intelligence of the most powerful members of society and the paucity of existential content in modern educational systems.
