This chapter focuses on the bodily elements of fauna, specifically the non-osseous components. We analyse animal fleece and leather, elements that have received insufficient attention in the archaeological and zooarchaeological literature. Through this lens, we explore the relationships between humans and non-human animals and propose a shift in focus from the central theme of many archaeofaunal studies: nutritional utility. To deepen this inquiry, we examine components that undergo fluid transformations. The sample, collected from diverse contexts at two archaeological sites in Antofagasta de la Sierra (Southern Puna of Argentina), spans an extensive temporal sequence. These materials were examined microscopically to achieve: (a) taxonomic identification of cohabiting species, (b) characterization of fleece transformation processes, and (c) recovery and identification of pollen grains preserved in the fleece. The results have allowed us to reflect on the mutual relationships established between animals and people over time, considering the implications of shared residential and productive spaces, feeding areas, ritual practices, and long-distance exchange trips. From an interpretive standpoint, we position our analysis within Andean ontological frameworks where humans, non-humans, inanimate objects, divinities, and spiritual entities are interconnected in complex inter-corporal networks.
