摘要
In this chapter, I present three cases. Case number 1 is a case of homicide, case number 2 is a case of shoplifting, and case number 3 is based on Human Rights Act 1998. In case number 1, a patient murders his ex-girlfriend. I discuss the types of personality disorder and complications of alcohol abuse. I have explained the structure of a court report and as an expert, what to expect in giving evidence to the court, for example, opinion on fitness to plead, mental responsibility and appropriate sentence. In case number 2, a case of shoplifting, referral is made if mental illness is suspected. I have discussed the clinical assessment and the role of the psychiatrist. Case number 3 is based on failure to provide health care giving rise to breach of liability under Article 2 of the Humans Rights Act 1998. I have also discussed the criteria regarding the application for detention under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
