Heart failure (HF) is defined as the inability of the heart to fill with or eject blood at a rate appropriate to meet tissue requirements. This refers to a chronic evolving syndrome and is characterized by increased morbidity and mortality. Patients with HF often encounter physical symptoms and serious exacerbations (such as breathlessness and fatigue) that require hospitalization, which is associated with a progressive decline in physical capacities and poor prognosis. Dietary interventions like fluid and sodium restrictions are recommended for patients with HF, yet implementation of a balanced nutritional therapy could assist them to reduce the burden of HF and improve their quality of life. Nonetheless, this situation limits the patient’s ability to exit the house premises and socialize with friends and family, resulting in many psychological symptoms such as loneliness, depression, and anxiety. Patients who suffer from HF require holistic supportive care so as to cope with their disease more effectively.

摘要
