Global supply chains and associated hegemonic cultures bond biotic and abiotic Nature and World. This planetary nexus has challenging socio-ecological dynamics, such as the impacts of climate change. Planetary-scale anthropogenic change (PSAC) blends citizens’ experiences of political, social, and cultural dimensions. The Earth Science’s perspective is insufficient to explain PSAC, given that the latter is more than the physics and chemistry of Earth system components. On equal footing to physical and chemical attributes are those associated with political, social, and cultural features of social-ecological systems. Therefore, to render Earth Science expertise actionable, the interdisciplinary integration, societal relevance, and ethical implications of Earth Science have to be accentuated, including: (a) Earth Science expertise plays a role in civil engineering, technology, and infrastructure to create resilient and sustainable systems and practices; (b) a science communication practice fostering public Earth Science expertise; (c) a practice of interdisciplinary collaborations going beyond STEM disciplines; and (d) a science practice that includes community-based knowledge and decision-making. Given the societal implications, the goal is to achieve Earth System Literacy, which is tuned to a systemic understanding of Earth, a unique World, and diverse human cultures. Suchlike is the place of Earth Science in a World of PSAC.
