The rise of smart cities has made Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication a crucial component in developing intelligent infrastructure. Fifth-generation (5G) New Radio (NR) technology is specifically designed to facilitate massive machine-type communication (mMTC), which supports seamless connectivity for a large number of devices. This paper assesses the capabilities of 5G NR in enhancing M2M communication within smart city contexts, emphasizing key aspects such as network scalability, low latency, energy efficiency, and data throughput. The research highlights the potential of 5G NR to enable real-time applications, including intelligent transportation systems, smart grids, and urban safety networks. Simulation results illustrate both the feasibility and the challenges associated with deploying 5G NR for extensive M2M use cases, providing valuable insights for future advancements in this area.

摘要
