While hydrogen is attractive as an energy carrier, it has some serious drawbacks. Among these are the difficulty in storing and transporting hydrogen and the low efficiency associated with many hydrogen applications. At present, the lack of a suitable distribution infrastructure is a major drawback to the use of hydrogen as a transportation fuel. Other chemical fuels can be derived from hydrogen. These are referred to as electrofuels or e-fuels, if they are produced from environmentally sustainable hydrogen. These fuels include e-methane, e-methanol and e-ammonia. The present chapter reviews the properties, production and uses of these e-fuels.
