The severity of patient symptoms can vary from asymptomatic cases to pulmonary edema, largely dependent on the size of the defects. While the standard treatment for severe leakage involves surgical repair, transcatheter device closure serves as a viable alternative approach for patients with high surgical mortality rates, provided that the anatomy is suitable and expert interventionists perform the procedure. Despite the lack of a dedicated device, various devices can be employed based on the shape and location of the defect as visualized through 3D TEE.
