Performing the Past: Life Histories, RISP, and Social Justice in Social Studies
摘要
This chapter expands the implementation of Life Histories from the English Language Arts classroom and provides a rationale for Life Histories in the social studies classroom, connecting to national social studies standards, social justice standards, and critical reading principles. Using a unit of study on activism and civil rights movements across the decades, the chapter describes how the RISP (Read, Interpret, Script, Performance) framework can be implemented with multiple texts such as primary documents and secondary sources and presents new possibilities for Life History performances.
