This chapter documents our journey to Life Histories. As literacy professors we have long believed that reading and mining critical, multicultural texts can lead to deeper understanding of self and others in today’s disconnected and troubled world. We know that multicultural texts invite readers in; Bishop’s windows and mirrors metaphor underscores every book we propose. Based on our work of more than 15 years, we argue that reading, talking, writing, and performing can move readers to question their lives and the lived realities of others. And we hope that such literacy experiences can ultimately empower and motivate those who engage to seek change.

摘要

This chapter documents our journey to Life Histories. As literacy professors we have long believed that reading and mining critical, multicultural texts can lead to deeper understanding of self and others in today’s disconnected and troubled world. We know that multicultural texts invite readers in; Bishop’s windows and mirrors metaphor underscores every book we propose. Based on our work of more than 15 years, we argue that reading, talking, writing, and performing can move readers to question their lives and the lived realities of others. And we hope that such literacy experiences can ultimately empower and motivate those who engage to seek change.
