This chapter examines the ways in which metaversal technologies, such as VR and AR devices as well as virtual worlds and gaming platforms, seek not only to collect new and more extensive forms of data about bodies, but also to extend as well as narrowly redefine our corporeal capacities and individual identities. In particular, we focus on how metaverse technologies and worlds are positioned as new spaces for the expression of identity through the consumption of virtual fashion and apparel while simultaneously commodifying existing forms of social interaction, economic production, and self-presentation. Last, we reflect on some of the connections and implications of the virtualization and datafication of bodies, particularly for the development of AI systems that are becoming increasingly present in virtual as well as physical environments.

摘要
