This chapter reclassifies the main arguments of the critical-liberal approaches in studies on Turkey by linking the older strong state tradition thesis with its updated versions which focus variously on new developmentalism and comparative authoritarianism. Their methodological and ideological proximities and continuities will be highlighted by focusing on the period since 2011 but also drawing out connections with the previous periods and their analyses thereof. In this chapter, the main arguments of these three expressions within the critical-liberal approaches, which superficially seem different from one another, are classified, and in this way the methodological and ideological continuities between them are traced. Aside from considering the important contributions of these analyses to the explanation of contemporary social relations, focusing on the main arguments on which they agree in their explications of the transition to authoritarianism will make it possible to determine methodological limitations.

摘要
