The way the term practical work is conceptualized and used in science education has changed over time from a focus exclusively on laboratory (in class or out-of-class) experiments—laboratory techniques and procedures to a more broader and encompassing conception, which includes any teaching and learning activity where the involved students, individually or as groups, observe or manipulate objects and materials with the aim of developing some kind of knowledge, skill or understanding. The focus of this chapter is on practical work activities often carried out in the form of experiments and the knowledge, skills, as well as preparations teachers need to make to be able to exploit the potential learning benefits of practical work in chemistry.

摘要
