This chapter explores how the concept of dharma has evolved as a dimension of locality, offering a nuanced perspective on the different manifestations of dharma in local contexts. It reveals the dynamic and multifaceted nature of dharma and its local characteristics, showing how it adapts to specific geographical, cultural and historical contexts. The chapter examines the local realities of dharma from three broad perspectives: ritual locality, historical locality and socio-cultural locality. In ritual locality, dharma is intricately connected to local customs and practices, sometimes overriding the influence of textual traditions, as local rituals shape the application of dharma even in its immediate contexts. In historical locality, the development of dharma reflects the influences of different cultural and religious traditions, transcending geographical boundaries. In socio-cultural locality, the chapter highlights the reciprocal relationship between traditions and the contexts in which dharma is practised, with expressions of dharma demonstrating highly localized cultural forms. The chapter argues that dharma in locality is tied to geographical locations and life situations, showing transitions across historical periods and geographical areas through various expressions, including in art, literature, music and dance.

摘要
