Life in urban areas that are busy and noisy includes factors that are not usually taken into consideration when talking about a “healthy heart”. Even though factors like noise, stress, or negative thoughts are ignored, they can affect vital parameters such as heart rate and heart rate variability in a bad way. At the opposite point, art, music, and cognitive activities can positively influence these parameters and improve both the well-being state and the health of a subject. This is why it is critical to continuously monitor the parameters through wearable devices. Thus, one of the goals of this paper is to observe the influence of the external factors on two parameters, heart rate and heart rate variability, by developing and using an Arduino-based device that records electrocardiographic (ECG) signals, that were first compared with the ones recorded with the Biopac system. To record the changes in the ECG signals caused by the external factors, a presentation containing four distinct tasks, besides relaxation (to establish the baseline) —visual variations, auditive variations, cognitive activities, and memories—was used. Another goal is to design and implement a graphical user interface (GUI) that is user-friendly and can help the subject to better visualize and understand the outcomes of the recordings.
