This chapter critically examines the importance of urban green spaces in the sustainable planning of Noida City, a prominent urban center in the National Capital Region of India. By focusing on Noida as a case study, this analysis seeks to underscore the integral role of urban green spaces in fostering environmental sustainability, enhancing social well-being, and contributing to economic vitality within urban settings. This chapter begins by outlining the theoretical framework that positions urban green spaces as crucial components of sustainable urban ecosystems. It then provides a detailed overview of Noida’s urban landscape, including its planning framework, the distribution and types of green spaces, and the policies governing their development and maintenance. This chapter’s core is dedicated to evaluating the environmental benefits of Noida’s green spaces, such as biodiversity conservation, air and water purification, and mitigation of urban heat island effects. It also explores the social dimensions, including enhancing physical and mental health, providing recreational opportunities, and facilitating community engagement and social inclusion. The economic impacts of green spaces, including property value appreciation, tourism, and investment attraction, are also analyzed. Through a methodological approach that combines spatial analysis, policy review, and stakeholder interviews, this chapter identifies the challenges and opportunities in Noida’s urban green space management, such as land use pressures, funding constraints, and community involvement. The findings highlight the necessity of integrating urban green spaces into the broader urban planning and governance frameworks to achieve sustainable urban development. This chapter concludes by proposing recommendations for policymakers, urban planners, and community stakeholders to enhance the functionality, accessibility, and sustainability of urban green spaces in Noida. These recommendations are intended to guide other urban areas seeking to leverage green spaces to achieve sustainable urban growth.
