The research is based on an analytical framework that makes use of the discursive-material knot (Carpentier 2017) and the concept of intersectionality (Bilge 2009; Carastathis 2016; Cho et al. 2013; Crenshaw 1989). Both approaches encourage to examine the co-constitution of the media and conflict from under-researched perspectives. The discursive-material knot allows to include material practices that go beyond the common focus on news content to explore the role of the media in conflict (Budka & Bräuchler 2020; Rodríguez 2011). Whereas the feminist approach opened a new perspective from the point of view of women journalists (Fröhlich 2016; García-Mingo 2019; Orgeret 2016), the intersectional lens pushed to look beyond gender aspects to include questions of location, age, social and marital status, education, literacy, religion, etc.
