Thread Two: Proximity Radios and Conflicts
摘要
In this chapter, the focus lies on the radio practices in relation to conflicts. The complex and volatile context linked to insecurity and armed conflict shapes working conditions in radio stations. However, radio makers adapt and navigate these new pressures in different ways. The many spaces that radios use, on air and off air, to engage with social conflicts offer manifold opportunities. The research found five approaches to radio programs on conflicts, namely an information, persuasion, dialogue, participatory, and performative approach. However, material and discursive challenges arise that affect radio practices in relation to conflicts. These are mainly linked to social responsibility and proximity.
