Quality Management in Interventional Radiology

Prospectively organized quality management is an indispensable part of interventional radiology. It is a continuous process with communication at its core. Standardization as one of its primary technical approaches uses a multitude of tools such as SOPs, checklists, and certifications. In the long run, QM will be beneficial patient outcomes and therefore for IR as a clinical subspecialty. Moreover, QM establishes a beneficial link between the quality of the procedure and its efficiency. Therefore, QM has also important economic impact. Lapses in the standards of care may lead to harm to the patient and will be avoided in many cases by a functioning QM system.
