Marking a surgical target previous to surgery usually is a simple procedure with a very low complication rate. It provides faster and safer performance during subsequent minimally invasive or open surgery specifically in lung and breast lesions. Regarding localization of pulmonary nodules, hook wire localization is ideal for single lesions, whereas other localization techniques, such as coils, may be preferred for cases involving multiple nodules. It is recommended to schedule surgery promptly after hook wire localization. For superficial nodules, alternatives like dyes, contrasts, and medical surgical adhesives are appropriate, and these options also provide greater flexibility in surgical scheduling. However, in most regions of the human body, localization of tumors can be done quickly and with very little strain for the patient, and should therefore be considered more often.
