Solidarity Based Social Transformation: The Case of Mondragon Cooperatives

Cooperatives are a special kind of socio-economic associations of people. They are not a special kind of businesses or enterprises, but a special kind of communities of people who are connected to use or apply their common businesses with a purpose to meet their common needs. So, cooperatives are foremost associations of people that use a business or a company or an enterprise as an instrument or a tool to follow and enforce their common aspirations. Global definition of cooperatives by ICA says: “a co-operative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.” Mondragon cooperatives are examples on the global level of how should human organize to both be efficient and attain wellbeing of their stakeholders.
