In this chapter, we go over AAC, starting with a review of acoustic signal properties and channel characteristics. By comparing these to their radio counterparts, we highlight the unique challenges in designing AAC systems. We then present a detailed discussion of commonly used modulation techniques. Finally, we conclude the chapter by outlining open problems and research challenges in this field.
