Innovative Strategies for Educating Learners with Disabilities Using Generative Artificial Intelligence
摘要
One core target of the United Nations for a sustainable future is ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. There are different kinds of disabilities, such as sensory disabilities and neurodevelopmental disabilities, among others. The reason for disability can be any malfunction in body processes and structures, as the reasons also involve environmental barriers due to social differences. Due to such disabilities, individuals face difficulties in performing one or more major life activities like education. There are a variety of learning difficulties that individuals with disabilities may have, such as understanding, counting, and speaking as well as attention and hyperactivity-related problems. From a pedagogical perspective, some of the issues that exist in educational settings include principles and interests, demands and responsiveness, public policy and laws, and differential treatment and practices. Therefore, this chapter focuses on generative AI (GAI) and its application in the education system and details requirements for empowering learning for people with diverse special needs and personalized education for learners with special needs. It also provides strategies for implementing GAI in education for disabled individuals. More still, it presents case studies demonstrating teaching and learning for learners with special needs and future directions in AI-assisted disability education. Educating individuals with disabilities requires both purposeful and strategic approaches to address them individually in response to the individual’s learning needs.
