The optical operating microscope remains the gold standard visualization instrument in reconstructive microsurgery. Nevertheless, recent developments and innovations in digital imaging have led to the merging of microsurgery and stereopsis in digital imaging. Novel surgical visualization systems such as exoscopes offer high-definition 3D digital imaging and a broader field of view. Exoscopic systems utilize a high-resolution camera at the operating field and a high-resolution screen that projects the operating field away (exo) to be seen (skopein) by the operating surgeon and have been extensively used in microsurgery in various reconstructive procedures where safety and efficacy have been demonstrated. Recently, this technological progress demonstrated the ergonomic benefits of “head-up” microscopy and have led to the development of only screen-based or glass-based digital microscopic devices. In this section, we are introducing the GoScope™ (X-Biomedical™), a novel digital portable microscopic prototype device that incorporates innovative digital binocular vision technology to enable fully digital glass-based stereopsis.

摘要
