Robotics offers several perceived advantages by many surgeons, including ease of suturing and primary fascial closure, better mesh positioning, and better operative ergonomics. For patients, these techniques may decrease postoperative pain when compared with laparoscopy because of the ability to eliminate transfascial sutures and perform nonpenetrating mesh fixation with sutures instead of tacks. Furthermore, some studies have recently shown lower recurrence and reoperation rates using robotic approaches compared to laparoscopy [2].
