The final chapter of the book explores how the aesthetics of products and services can encourage sustainable behavior. More specifically, it presents a new perspective that bridges together insights from sustainable product design, consumer behavior, and neuroscience, going beyond the traditional view of the inherent sustainability of luxury. We introduce a novel, consumer-centric perspective on sustainable luxury that highlights consumers’ propensity to utilize luxury products over time, driven by the experiences they live, over and beyond the concept of product tangible functionality and material quality. Throughout the chapter we briefly introduce results from recent, ongoing empirical research, as well as main managerial implications and avenues for advancing research in the field.
