Developing the Epistemic Literacy of Learners in Religious Education
摘要
We advocate the development of epistemic literacy in all learners in all religious education (RE) classrooms. In fact, we advocate it in all learners in all schools, within and beyond classrooms. We focus solely on RE due to the constraints of word count and our own expertise. In any case, RE is particularly well-placed to make a distinctive contribution to the development of epistemic literacy. Epistemic literacy can and should be developed in RE in faith, secular and non-partisan settings. We place learners at the heart of our enquiry which asks what an epistemically literate young person might have the capacity to know and do, and how RE that promotes epistemic literacy might contribute to a more just society through its (teachers and) learners.
